25-Jun ~ Bukotsu Ramen House
That day we were looking around and looking for any cheap set lunch at Penang Times Square. Penang Times Square is the newly open shopping center in town…but each floor still seems vacant and hollow. But in the Ground floor, you will lots of restaurants and kopitiam. One can find Swensen, Old Town, Tsuruya and etc etc.
And we found this…
Bukotsu Ramen House. Set Lunch start from as low as RM12.9.
We were seated on the 2nd floor where we were required to place our shoes in the cabinet. Upon enter the 2nd floor, we saw the table was decorated in Tatami style where we will need to be seated on the floor. Each table we can see that was all set with a few bottles of sauces.
From left to right: White Vinegar
Rayu – Chili oil
Chili Flakes
Shoyu – Soy SauceAnd here is some decoration on the table as well: We have ordered a Ramen Set Lunch. We can choose a type of Ramen, a drink, a salad and a scoop of ice cream…for only RM12.90.
And here’s the Hot Ocha. And this is my choice of Ramen. Volcano Set 2. From the name itself, you will knew how fiery this could be. Hence, we have requested for medium spicy and the staff over there quickly suggested to separate the chili paste for us and we can adjust the spiciness itself.
From left: Chili paste, Volcano Ramen and salad. The Ramen itself was cook in heavy stock where the taste of the pork was indeed very strong. The put some Japanese Chasu, some seasoned vegetables and also not forgetting the Ramen. But when the Ramen was stir evenly with the Chili paste, this bowl of normal Ramen had tuned into a better bowl of Ramen. Pls do aware that the chili is REALLY HOT and for those who cannot hold too much of spicy, pls take note!!Besides that, we ordered Garlic rice (RM4). I found this Fried Garlic rice was a bit oily upon served. Deep fried some bits of garlic and pan fried with the rice and finally add on an egg in order to have the aroma.
And here comes my favorite. Chawanmushi. Egg was steamed with some fish cakes, Shitake mushroom and some chunks of chicken. The egg itself was so tender and it was burning my tongue as it was very HOT!! But this is too pricey if compare to others where we can get 1 cup of Chawanmushi at RM3.9. This place is selling at RM5.
And this is my dessert of the day. Green Tea Ice cream with Red Bean. Somehow the taste of the green tea was only doing moderate. As a conclusion, there’s still a lot of choices of Ala carte food in the menu. I shall come back again to savor more. Overall, if your hunger pangs, and looking for cheap set lunch, you can consider this too.
