Feast in Chai Leng Park

4-Apr-10 ~ Chai Leng Park a.k.a Wai Sek Kai
This place was extremely suggested by one of self-claimed Cutie Friend of mine.. LOL
No doubt she do has the charm within her. She had the tender and precise heart, hence, you will just love to tag along her….
To whom who is reading this….you know who you are…
LOL

She had named a few goodies and reminds me to try them on…
Well, let us see some of the food across the sea…

We spot this porridge stall and it really looks good.
I saw this uncle poured a small portion of the cooked porridge and put in some ingredients as you wish to have. I have opt for the fresh fish..
They MOY is really good as it really smoothes and taste good as well…
My cutie friend had reminded me to try the Fried chicken as well as the specially prepared chili sauce. Unfortunately, this stall was off that day. Hence, we opt for this Belacan chicken..
To my disappointment, the chicken was cold, hence, the shrimp paste was overwhelming….
My mother in law and Grandpa choose this Bak Kut teh instead. They boiled the herbs soups with lots ingredients like the Tau Ki (fried bean curds), lean meats, pork balls, mushroom and others too..
According to mum, the Bak Kut Teh was so-so…
Next, that recommended was this Tai Lok Mee a.k.a Fried Hokkien mee. According to my friend, this stall was originated from KL..
Anyway, it sure as good as it gets if they can add more dash of dark soya sauce.. LOLThen was this Hello Kitty Leng Chi Kang. This dessert was nicely cooked with lots bitsy thingy, like the tapioca pearls, longan, Suet Yee, cooked sweet potato, rambutan, red beans and a lot more…
No doubt this is good though…. LOL If you do happen to be there, pls remember to drop by this Burger stall.
This uncle was really generous in his sauce where he put lots of mayo, ketchup and chili sauce. I have ordered this Black pepper burger…
Sorry, I did not manage to this picture as I just could not help myself and we slurp up the burger in the car…. LOL

P/S: Pls do remember to order early as the burger is really HOT SALES…
Thanks to My Cutie Friend…for all the good food…

Cari Mkn in the Crowd

19-Mar-10 ~ Jelutong Pasar Malam
That night, hubby took me to this so called Wai Sek Kai at Jelutong area, nearby Perak Road. It was crowded with people with a huge appetite that pangs for food.

When you reached, you will find lots of stalls selling sort of things, from cutie sticker to cheap household thingy. As on the side of the road, there’s where our spotlight was…

The 1st stall where we had stopped was this, the cheapest Sar Hor Fun we ever had in Penang. The aunty was there all night long, frying the Hor Fun non-stop and next to it, was the van where the other helper of the aunty busy packing the Hor Fun for the customer.
Guess how much is the Hor Fun?? Only RM1.6 for small packet and RM2 for big packet
Although the Hor Fun was rather cheap, but the taste was rather dull. I guess it was due to the Hor Fun was no fried thoroughly enough…When we arrived home, the gravy had soaked into the Hor Fun and it had become sort of Dry Hor Fun.. LOL
Across the Hor Fun stall, was this Sharkfin soup stall..
Sharkfin per bowl for only RM3?? Where would you find it??
This bowl of sharkfin was cooked from this pot of heavy chicken stock. Added with lots shredded chicken bits and sliced Muk Yee. They added a big splash of vinegar to enhance the taste within…
A great kick with a definite C-H-E-A-P price!!
Not far from the sharkfin soup stall, you will find another stall crowded with people…
The crowds were queuing up for a plate of Char Koay Kak..
These Koay Kak was eventually the a kind of KUIH made of rice flour…
They will chopped the Koay Kak into tiny pieces and stir fried with dark soya sauce and lots of bean sprouts and chopped preserved turnips. Lastly, they will add an egg for the fragrance…
At the Pasar malam, you will find all sorts of goodness of hawker heaven…
Take a look at this ever-famous Uncle Bob fried chicken
And the crowds too.. busy looking for food all around....
Not to forget this kind of hawker as well, the one that sells lots of fried thingy..
From nuggets to sausages, from chicken balls to other cocktails as well..
What about some desserts?? Lovely puddings
You can find a few of these stalls too along the pasar malam. These stalls fried the prawn crackers, fish crackers, and even potato crackers instantly…
I was drooling when stop at the next stall. The stall that sells Belacan Chicken. (Shrimp paste chicken).
Uncle was frying the chicken at the corner.
Just look at the chicken and you will understand why the heck am I drooling??
The chicken were preserved with the shrimp paste and fried till golden..
I LOVEEEE the chicken wing the most..
Next was this another talk-about hawker in the pasar malam. Bubble milk tea origin from Taiwan. This stall was highly recommended by one of the hubby’s friend. Look at the ample choice that you will have…
Hubby chooses this Original Bubble Milk tea and he just loves it!! This drink was made of red tea mixed with milk powder and shake well. Lastly, they added some pearls, made of giant tapioca balls.
My tummy was bulging and yet we still need to savor the last at the last stall..
The Lok Lok stall…
You could have all sorts of seafood, meats, vegetables and lots of it...
Each sticks only cost range from 50cents to RM1.2
Just dip the food into the pot of hot water. When it is cooked, just dip into these yummy sauces. You can find the satay sauce, sweet sauce, chili sauce and this sweet-spicy sauce as well.
Our tummy was screaming for help and asking us to stop eating anymore..
Hence, we went back with our chock-full tummy and heart too…

Do drop by at this if you do have a huge appetite just like us!!

Good-o-smell of Hor Fun

7-Mar-10 ~ Foo Heong Restaurant

Known as old label for fragrant Hor Fun for the good-old-days… my mum always tell me that…. They even said they are willing to queue for more than an hour just to savor that packet of Hor Fun…

Located just opposite the Tai Tung restaurant… you will find a conventional shop with the big signboard hand written as Foo Heung Restaurant….
Hor Fun or known as rice noodle were made from rice flour. Well known for it texture and its smoothness, we seldom said NO for it..
No matter served with dark soya sauce, or stir fried or even blenched with soup, we still crave for its own quality…

Foo Heong had been with us when my mum was as old as 6 or 7 years old. Mum even told me that there’s a saying, “Breakfast must go Yee Heong, and diner is Foo Heong for sure”….
I still recall when I 1st step into this restaurant again… the environment were still the same 20 years back… when Dad took us there to savor for the famous Hor Fun….
Over here, besides the famous Hor Fun, you can find other snack and dishes…
Normally, a cup of freshly brewed tea always comes together with the Hor Fun… but this round, we opt for Chrysanthemum Tea…
Just like usual, we were served with plastic plate and a set of plastic culinary as well..
1st to serve was this Stir Fried Siu Bai Chai with Garlic. The Siu Pai Chai were sliced thinly and stir fried with lots of garlic. The vege were fresh and crisp….Another dish to come was the Sweet and sour pork a.k.a Pai Kut Ong. The pork was sliced thinly and deep fried. Lastly, the pork were served with specially prepared sweet and sour sauce. Nothing special about this dish though….
Here comes the superstar of the night…
Hor Fun or rice noodle were stir fried with some dark soya sauce. Lastly, they cooked some gravy with lots of fish ball, chicken bites and some vege and served on cooked Hor Fun. The taste and the testure just the same as 20 years ago where we ate happily with Dad and mum.

Next, was this Fried rice. They fried the rice with eggs, chic bites, char siew (BBQ pork) and the taste were awesome…
But I found that the rice were a bit soggy..
Last to serve was the Hung Tao Mee. The soup base were like the sharkfin soup where the soup were thicken with some corn flour. Inside the soup you will find the Yee Mee served underneath…
I found this dish was rather a bit disappointed…
Overall, this place still holds the fragrant of Hor Fun strongly…
No doubt, the place is old but it is always good to bring back the good old memory of the loved ones as well as the good-old-taste
