Little Black Restaurant

27-Feb ~ Kozue Japanese Restaurant

It was this BLACK thingy that attracted us to this place. Compare to other restaurant, I found this restaurant was rather small. And yet the decoration of this restaurant was not weak at all. Located just opposite to Maggie T and Kim Gary at Gurney, you will find this restaurant hiding silently with a touch of mystery colors, black.

The menu itself was black too. LOL…We served a cup of Ocha with a set of culinary. A pair of metal chopstick, a serviette with the logo on it and a small square sized of plate. I was so eager to try on the Chawanmushi, but unfortunately, there were no more to be served. How sad!! Hence, we opt for a few snack.
1st to serve, was this Enoki Bacon. By the name itself, then you can guess what was it about. Some Enoki mushroom was wrapped up with a big piece of bacon and grilled perfectly. A plate of this cost about RM5. I like the saltiness within the bacon. YUMM!!!Next was this Asparagus Bacon…yup..you are right..bacon again.. hahahaha!! The difference of this round is the bacon is wrapping around the asparagus. Same price as the Enoki Bacon. And here comes the main course. My beloved Japanese Curry Rice set. It comes with a plate of white steam rice with the thick gravy of curry of pork with potato and carrot, a bowl of miso soup, 2piece of watermelon and a small plate of Japanese salad. Only RM20!! But I found this dish quite salty. Then was this Agedashi Tofu. RM5 for 4pieces of Tofu. This tofu was coated with cornstarch and deep fried and served with some bits of Bonito flakes. Served with some soy sauce and Hoi Sin sauce. I can eat THEM ALL by myself…. Holy….Next was this Ham and cheese Sushi sandwich. RM8 per plate. Instead of using bread as sandwich, they used sushi rice as the replacement. Layered with a thin layer of egg, spread with some mayo and topped with the cheese and ham, adding some fresh cucumber and tomatoes… and here goes… Wa-la……Overall, this place served so-so food. I envy their creativity in making the Japanese food more variety and fusion them with style and a touch of healthiness. You are most welcome, but be aware of saltiness. Well…a couple of Ocha can help then.. LOL

Cheap Cheap Diner for Two

25-Feb ~ An easy on the pocket set dinner at less than RM15?? Believe it or not??

This place was recommended by hubby as he claimed they have western and oriental cuisine. Surprisingly, they only served Western food at night time.
One thing special about this place was they used glasses to decorate their walls. The whole restaurant was painted in white… it look so clean in a glimpse…
Just look at the decorations and the chairs over there…they were all WHITE too…

The food were all indeed within the range of RM20, unless for those salmon dishes, it can exceed RM20++. I ordered the Bombay Chicken, RM13.9. And hubbies ordered Jumbo sausage for RM9.9, and guess what, adding only RM4.9 and you will have a glass of Iced Lemon tea, a soup and a dessert. Why not??

I just loved they put 2 jars of tomato sauce and chili sauce on each table. Normally, they will put the pepper and salt on the table instead. Good for me coz I am a tomato sauce lover…. *hahhahah*1st to come was this soup of the house come with with a soft roll of bun. The mushroom soup was indeed a bowl of simple mushroom soup and nothing particular about it…Here comes the Bombay Chicken. The boneless chicken drumstick were grilled till tender and served with generous portion of the special Bombay sauce. It was like eating the curry chicken ala western style. The curry itself was fragrantly cooked and blended with lots of herbs and flavor. Served with a scoop of Coleslaw and some green broccoli as well as some deep fried wedges, and this only served for RM13.9??
Cool…..Then was this Jumbo sausage. Big sausage were fried and served with 2 scoops of smashed potato and thicken with some home made gravy. Taste excellent with some grilled corn and some green broccoli. Yumyum!!At last, they served ice cream as the dessert and you can choose either, vanilla, chocolate or strawberry as you wish. Crested with some chocolate sauce and some colorful chocolate rice and here you go….Overall this place is just too cool for the food and the price as well. Pick a day and visit them. Just a note for the day, do not choose lunch time to go there as it will be jam-packed with people…
Cheers’….

Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

21-Feb ~ Smoky Jacks

It was raining like mad and we were both dripping and freezing. How good that will be if we could settle down and have a bowl of hot soupy things!!. It was the inexplicable of the environment that caught our attention. Our stomach is growling, hence, we decided to stop by there.

This restaurant was newly setup as this place used to be called another restaurant. Located at the junction of the Upper Penang Rd, just 2shops after the Segafredo, at 1st, we found this place quite eerie as it was indeed very dark and inside. The walls were encircled by wooden roots that crawled from within. As you enter, there’s a feeling like, ‘Oh, my God, are we at the wrong place? Are we in the forest??”…. The ceiling and the wall was surrounded by the roots.
The most weird was we brought to our table and we were seated on the cocoon-alike chair. *hahhahhaha* sorry..din manage to take any photo. Sorry..the quality of the photo was very bad.. I know.... Sigh...

Take a good look at the price. Upon entered, I was really thought that food could be a bit pricey. But when take a further look; it was not really costly at all.
Let me introduce one by one.

And here comes our appetizers’, we were served a piece of mix grain bun and another piece of white bun. The special of this bun was, we were given 3types of butter. We have this plain-o-butter, the garlic butter and the spinach butter. I like the Garlic butter as it was unlike from what we usually have in the restaurant. Next to come was my Minestrone. To me, this soup was so alike like my favorite Borsch soup. Just that this soup was not really sour enough as it looks. With bits of vege such as the carrot, potato and some onion, this soup is about RM6+. We were suggested this dish of the house, the BBQ Pork Ribs. Big chunk of the pork rib was marinated with the special home made BBQ sauce and barbequed for good.Oops….sorry…the quality of the picture was really awful… I knew….
Now here you goes….after a few snaps of photos… *grin*Served with a baked potato with tartar sauce and a piece of grilled corn, this dish indeed was perfecto. How I wish they are more generous on the sauce as I found the saucy ribs was not saucy enough.
A set of ribs is about RM33+.

We were afraid that the ribs will be very big portion as we experienced before, hence we opt for another lighter meal, where we have this Teriyaki Chicken Burger. Large piece of chicken was grilled with Teriyaki sauce and top up with some lettuce, tomatoes and onion rings. Guess what’s the side dish?? We have some fried potatoes and some fresh cut fruit. I did not guess too but it was quite a fresh idea for sidelines… fruits serving with burgers….*hahhahahha*
Again, this burger was not saucy enough for me as well…When asked for recommendation for desserts, the waitress had suggested the Tiramisu, the home made cake. But I want something lighter…(yeahhh….tonight’s theme is LIGHT) hence, I called for Orange Sorbet. This Sorbet was special in a way that the Sorbet was served in the orange skin. Somehow, they spooned out the orange flesh and puffed back the Sorbet into the skin for decoration purpose. It was sooooo smooth...and I can’t barely taste any cubes of ice as well. Definitely a YES for RM8+ only…Overall, the place is a COOL place. Just imagine…fine dining in the creepy forest and sitting on the cocoon alike chair…who would have dreamt of that??
Anyway, how I wish they put more sauce on the dish, then it will be double YES YES for this place!!
