Premium Korean Dining @ Daorae Korean BBQ Restaurant

27-Jun ~ Daorae Korean BBQ Restaurant
My sis birthday falls on the 29-Jun. Hence, she had decided to treat us in this new restaurant in the neighborhood.

As a starter, we were all given a bowl of this seaweed soup. Unlike the usual seaweed we have, this have a strong taste of the fermented beans sauce.
And it is on the house. Then we were tumbled up with lots a Korean appetizers’ ABSOLUTELY for free flow and ABSOLUTELY taste yummy!! From left, was the milky mashed potato. Served cold as you can taste bits of potato as well.
Next was this stir fried long beans with garlic.
Then was this stir fried spinach.

And this was the most YUMMY!! Frankly, I was not a diehard fan for Kimchi coz you will need the good ingredients in order to make a bowl of excellent Kimchi. But this, it really deserve to be praise…. Anti-clock wise from the right, was this Spicy shredded turnips with ikan bilis. Eventually, it was not spicy…
Then was the star of the night, KIMCHI!!
Lastly, were these poached bean sprouts. Another 2 side dishes was as below:
Fr left, Cubes Turnips in Chili and Stewed Sweet pumpkin… the pumpkin was so tender and soft and just melted in your mouth….
Ohhhhhh…. We have ordered 2sets of the BBQ set hence, some garnishing coming along as well. 1st, was this green leafy vegetable serve to wrap the BBQ-ed meat. Then, was this special Korean fermented bean sauce a.k.a Taucheong in Chinese and also some sesame oil. Lastly, was this bowl of slices garlic soaked in oil. Ever wonder why?? And here comes our BBQ set. We have ordered this; Hanbang Dweji Wang Galbi. (RM35). This is the fillet of pork ribs marinated with Korean Ginseng and herbs as well as sweet soy sauce. It was very well marinated. While the staff over there will help to grill for you, they too put the little bowl of slices of garlic soaked with oil on the grill pan as well. The taste….taste as good as it looks!!The staffs keep on turning the meat in order not to burn or to overcook the meat itself. Once it is done, they cut the fillet into biting size and served to us. This is where the garlic in the little bowl started to be jumping around the boiling oil… and this explains why...

How to treat yourself with the BBQ-ed meat:
Take a piece of the BBQ-ed meat and dip in the sesame oil then put on the leafy vegetable. Then lay on the slight brown garlic with the meat. Wrapped up the vege and then simply dashed with some Korean TauCheong….and….and…imagine it yourself….or better still… Come and savor it yourself… LOL

Next was this Dak Gal Bi, (RM27) chicken filet marinated in hot chili sauce. Surprisingly, it was not hot at all. I still prefer the strong taste of the pork..LOLComing up was this, PaJeon (RM27). I called this as Korean seafood pancake. This savory pancake was filled with bits of seafood and juliennes of spring onion were garnished on top of the pancake. It was crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Another must try dish, Jab Chee Bok-um-bab. (RM17). Korean glass noodle pan fried with rice. In this dish, you will find lots of shredded pork with all sorts of seasoned vegetables and fried with sesame oil. The glass noodle was stringy enough and it paired up delightfully with the rice. Double good for this!!Then, was tis Dolsot-Bibim-bab (RM19). Bed of rice was scoop into this piping hot of a bowl made from the stone. To garnish, they put lots of seasoned vegetables and lastly they put an egg on top of the vegetables. To finish this perfectly, you will need to stir evenly with Korean chili paste. You will ask for more…for sure….as it served double HOT. Hot from the bowl and Hot in the mouth… This is Haemol-guk-su-jeon-gol (RM55), this is a seafood pot where you will finds variety of fresh seafood. You will find scallops, oysters, prawns, clams a.k.a Lala, fish cake and slices of turnips. Stewed in a rich stock and lastly garnished with some Korean flat noodles…
It was RED and I thought that this will spicy for sure. And it was not….fortunately….
The soup was so ‘sweet’ as the ingredients were fresh.
This was FOC. Steamed egg with fish cakes. Taste similar to Japanese Chawanmushi but the texture was not smooth enough...Besides this, we have watermelon as well as dessert. Another highlight of the day, Rice tea. This so called rice brewed tea, was brewed with ginger. These sweet teas do have a touch of heady taste, thanks to the ginger!! To me this tea tastes like the soup base use for Tong Yuen.
Love it!!
Overall, this restaurant did really serve Premium Korean Dining as claimed in the signboard!!
If you do come by, do remember to drop by with your empty stomach then!!

Passion for Kerala

26-Jun~ Passion Of Kerala

If you do happen to know the location of Myzi, then you will be able to find this restaurant. To be more precise, it is just next to Korean BBQ Chicken in New World Park.Banana leaf cuisine was the dish populated by the Indian ethnic. This is mainly happen when there’s occasion like the wedding celebration.

Normally, a piece of clean-square banana leaf will be put in front of the guest. Then, the host will scoop out the some white fragrant rice on the banana leaf. Then, the host will shovel a few dishes of curry on the banana leaf as well. Sometimes, they will too put some Acar (a kind of pickles preserved in chilies) for the additional kick. Then the guest is most welcome to savor the dish with his or her own hand.

Let’s scroll down and have a look of the evolution of Banana Leaf Cuisine in those modern days.

This restaurant was decorated with bright lights and furnished with dark colored furniture. This is something similar that we are going to have later on!! I am drooling already… My drink of the day. I was ordering this Ginger Teh Tarik but I have forgotten to request to minus the milk within…. Anyhow, the taste was similar with the Teh Tarik with a touch of ginger. No doubt it is good…but do ensure to be taken in HOT. (RM2.5)Pompadom were served free flow over here. It was a kind of cracker made of kacang dhall and of coz with lots of spices. You can either have them in whole or you even can dip them on the curry itself. And this is our Banana leaf Vegetarian set (RM5-5). There were 4 type of vegetable curry to be served with the rice.
From left: Stewed vegetable cubes with grinded turmeric and shredded coconut.
Sambal Taukua (Hard Core Tofu)
Stir fried Long beans with shredded coconut
Sambal Chilies

To serve good Banana Leaf Cuisine, ones need marvelous curry to convoy with curry. Mine vegetarian set was tag along with 3 types of curry. From left: Chicken Curry, Dhall Curry and Fish CurryWe have ordered additional dish as well. First to come was this Masala Chicken. This is the chicken curry made from masala and spices. This is is really HOT!! (RM5 for 1pax)When asked what is the frequent dishes requested by customer, the staff over there recommended this Fried Fish. It was indeed the Ikan bawal Hitam. This is indeed a good dish!! And here’s the picture of as a whole…Now let’s cut the crap and let’s feast on…

Eventually, this place do served good banana leaf cuisine with a touch of classy within.

Bukotsu – Chapter 1 – The Set Lunch

25-Jun ~ Bukotsu Ramen House

That day we were looking around and looking for any cheap set lunch at Penang Times Square. Penang Times Square is the newly open shopping center in town…but each floor still seems vacant and hollow. But in the Ground floor, you will lots of restaurants and kopitiam. One can find Swensen, Old Town, Tsuruya and etc etc.
And we found this…

Bukotsu Ramen House. Set Lunch start from as low as RM12.9.

We were seated on the 2nd floor where we were required to place our shoes in the cabinet. Upon enter the 2nd floor, we saw the table was decorated in Tatami style where we will need to be seated on the floor. Each table we can see that was all set with a few bottles of sauces.
From left to right: White Vinegar
Rayu – Chili oil
Chili Flakes
Shoyu – Soy SauceAnd here is some decoration on the table as well: We have ordered a Ramen Set Lunch. We can choose a type of Ramen, a drink, a salad and a scoop of ice cream…for only RM12.90.
And here’s the Hot Ocha. And this is my choice of Ramen. Volcano Set 2. From the name itself, you will knew how fiery this could be. Hence, we have requested for medium spicy and the staff over there quickly suggested to separate the chili paste for us and we can adjust the spiciness itself.
From left: Chili paste, Volcano Ramen and salad. The Ramen itself was cook in heavy stock where the taste of the pork was indeed very strong. The put some Japanese Chasu, some seasoned vegetables and also not forgetting the Ramen. But when the Ramen was stir evenly with the Chili paste, this bowl of normal Ramen had tuned into a better bowl of Ramen. Pls do aware that the chili is REALLY HOT and for those who cannot hold too much of spicy, pls take note!!Besides that, we ordered Garlic rice (RM4). I found this Fried Garlic rice was a bit oily upon served. Deep fried some bits of garlic and pan fried with the rice and finally add on an egg in order to have the aroma.
And here comes my favorite. Chawanmushi. Egg was steamed with some fish cakes, Shitake mushroom and some chunks of chicken. The egg itself was so tender and it was burning my tongue as it was very HOT!! But this is too pricey if compare to others where we can get 1 cup of Chawanmushi at RM3.9. This place is selling at RM5.

And this is my dessert of the day. Green Tea Ice cream with Red Bean. Somehow the taste of the green tea was only doing moderate. As a conclusion, there’s still a lot of choices of Ala carte food in the menu. I shall come back again to savor more. Overall, if your hunger pangs, and looking for cheap set lunch, you can consider this too.

Heart stays Young when food is steel from the heart

29-May ~ Young heart
This restaurant was located just next to the Pulau Tikus Market. Unlike the other restaurant, this restaurant was indeed a double storey landed property; hence, the parking was not ample at all. You may end up parked out of the restaurant nearby the roadside if the parking was FULL.

It was this signboard that really grasps my interest. At 1st glance, it was very clean and fresh where there’s a lime-colored heart blossoming from beneath. And the next thing that comes to mind was hale and hearty food!!Upon entered, there was a section where we will need to sit on the floor. And we were seated of coz in heart-shaped-of-pinkish-cushion… LOL… everything seems very comfy. 1st to serve was this Warm Honey Lemon and the table was all set for the food to serve. We were served with a saucer with 3 types of garnishing committee; some XO sauce, some vinegar with shredded gingers and some fried shallots. What is the practice?? Do stay tune…This was the Hot and Spicy soup. This is the thick soup where something similar with the Szechuan Soup which I savor before. They put lots of small cubes of tofu, shredded crab sticks and small cubes of Shitake mushroom. And the taste, just as the name, spicy and sour at the same time. Really a bon appetite for appetizers’!! RM3.5 for 1 pax.

Next to come to sight was, spring roll alike dish. Instead of using popia skin, they used the layer made of rice flour. This thin and translucent skin was used to wrap some fresh lettuce, carrot slice and some shredded egg. Do dip this with some Thai Chili sauce, and you will fell in love instantly. Then it was this Fried Gyoza a.k.a Fried Dumplings. Normally, the Gyoza’s skin were freshly made and then was enfolded up with some chopped meat, some Kuchai, and some green pepper. These lovely dumplings were then slightly grilled in the pan. This is where the saucer of garnishing thingy comes in handy. You will need to take the dumplings with dips of the vinegar with finely shredded ginger, some XO sauce and some fried shallots.
YUMM!! RM8.4 We have ordered this BBQ rib with Fried rice. RM9.8 per plate. The fried rice were stir fried with some eggos and served with some ribs marinated in BBQ sauce (or better define as Char Siew sauce). The serving would be better if served in HOT.

This was mine favorite dish for the night. Fried Spinach Tofu. Spinach were chopped finely and mixed with the homemade tofu and deep fried for the excellent sensation. RM4.8 per plate. As for dessert, we have this Mango and Dragon fruit snowy. RM6.6 per bowl. Puree of mango was crushed with lots of ice and finally added some bites of Dragon fruit. Not sweet eniugh though.. Overall, this place do served vigorous and fresh food. Hence, those who preferred strong taste will definitely assumed this is not the right place for them.
